One step closer…

Today, Franny had her assessment with her kindergarten teacher, Mrs. Nelson.  While Rick and I filled out some last minute paperwork, Franny showed her competency on some basics—letters, phonics, numbers, to allow her teacher to know where she was at academically.  It was a short meeting—about a half hour—but I think it was good for Franny to see her classroom, meet her teacher, and just be in the school.  She seemed much more at ease when we left; she is still obviously anxious, but does seem to be absorbing everything and mentally preparing herself for Friday—there is much more chatter to herself and Cole about school things.  And, it was very important to her that I wash her new lunch cup so it would be ready.  For us, it was not only fun to see her classroom and meet her teacher, but to get more information about the different special things they have going during the week—tech lab, library day, two PE days, and ‘Big Buddies’ with one of the third grade classes.  And, although she insists she doesn’t want to eat cafeteria food, we did get the year’s menu and I an hoping she will eventually decide to eat the school food once a week.  Some other good news was that class sizes are down this year—by eight kids!  Everything is pointing to this being a wonderful experience for Franny, and it all starts in just two short days!
