While sorting through toys in the playroom, I came across these water blocks.  The kids hadn’t played with them for a long time, and I almost boxed them up to store upstairs. But, I always liked these blocks—there are so many ways to balance and stack them; and the sun was shining so brightly, so I stacked them on the windowsill so the sun could shine through them.  I didn’t think the kids would pay much attention to them, so I arranged them in a way that had them tipped and turned in an unconventional way.  Franny immediately restacked them in a standard way—one on top of the other.  The next day I had them rearranged again.  Franny then asked me to show her how to balance them.  Now, they are the favorite “new” toy.  It’s always interesting to see what makes kids play with any given toy on a daily basis.  Sometimes it just takes looking at things in a new way.
