Franny has an entire library of books memorized in her head.  She loves to “read” these to Cole or Delaney or even herself; Cole will even request Franny to read him books before quiet time or even just randomly.  The last few weeks, she has made it very clear that she wants to learn to actually read.   She is continuously trying to determine what different phrases say, and will pick out specific words within sentences and ask what it says.  Without question, we will give her the tools to learn, but she has such tremendous recall, it will be interesting to see how she pulls all the pieces together—it may be much quicker than we expect.   At preschool, they are focusing on the alphabet and phonics.  That is great and it is helping to solidify each letter for her, but she really already knows all that.  She knew all her letters before she turned two, and she starting learning the corresponding phonics not the long after.  It’s the linking of all the letters together that she hasn’t figured out, yet.   I am finding it all very exciting and am looking for some fun ways to help her.  Although how she can actually be at this point, I’m having a hard time reconciling.  Every day is so precious and so important—sometimes I just wish a could press ‘pause’ and completely take in what an amazing little girl she is before she changes even more.  Next thing you know she’ll want to go by Francesca.  Little does she know, she’ll always be Franny to me!
